A Heap of Anime News Arrived Over the Festive Season
The winter break offer a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and employing deep breathing to not arguing with relatives. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting developments came out over the break, and should you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Truly the most surprising revelation, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. However, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
